Home » RCS Empowers Excited for Opportunity to Exhibit at JMKAC Midsummer Festival of the Arts
July 11, 2022
A large part of the RCS mission involves collaborating with local organizations and businesses. Through the ongoing partnership with the John Michael Kohler Arts Center, RCS is excited to announce it will be exhibiting at the 2022 Midsummer Festival of the Arts in connection with the upcoming exhibition Creative! Growth! This exhibit contains highlights from the Creative Growth Arts Center in Oakland, California, now in its fiftieth year. Its founders, Florence Ludins-Katz and her husband Elias Katz, “established a unique and fiercely independent environment where disabled individuals are empowered to explore their creativity at their own pace.” You can learn more about the specific exhibit here.
We have long known the importance of artistic expression for all individuals, especially those with disabilities. Our own art program taps into the benefits of creativity and the Midsummer Festival of the Arts is allowing an opportunity to showcase that art and highlight the importance of individuality.
RCS will be on-site both days of the festival (Saturday 10 -5 and Sunday 10 – 4) and has a booth in the Atrium. Through our involvement, we hope to grow more awareness about the positive impact that art has on individuals’ lives. To do so, we will have an interactive mural available that visitors to the booth can help complete at no charge. The mural is being created on cardstock, and all participants will be provided with a mosaic piece meant to embrace individuality. When finished, the mural will be displayed inside the RCS building. The public will also be able to view it at the RCS Annual Art Show in September.
We hope you will be able to join us and see firsthand the impact of therapeutic art on the lives of individuals with disabilities. To learn more about the festival, visit: https://www.jmkac.org/engage-events/midsummer-festival-of-the-arts/
